FILM: The Painted Veil (M) Edward Norton and Naomi Watts star in this adaptation of W. Somerset Maugham's 1925 novel about a reserved Brit bacteriologist whose wife has an affair, prompting him to condemn them both to fighting cholera in a remote Chinese village.

SHOW: High School Musical: The Ice Tour will keep the kids happy at Newcastle Entertainment Centre. Times are 11am, 3pm and 7pm today, noon tomorrow.

BOOK: Georgiana, by Libby Hathorn. A beautiful novel young adults, it's about a pioneer botanist called Georgiana Molloy.

DVD: Starter For Ten (M) This bittersweet British comedy set in the 1980s stars James McAvoy (from Atonement and The Last King of Scotland) as a nerdy lad who ends up on a TV quiz show.

CD: Konk is an instantly likeable guitar-pop album from The Kooks, showing previously untapped lyrical depth.

SUNDAY DRIVE: Stoney Creek Road weaves its way through the Bulahdelah Forest, joining up with The Lakes Way. A signpost leads you to NSW's tallest tree.
